Individual Report

REPORT

After completing this assignment I realized that i have learned a lot of things, first of all is team work and team spirit, cooperation among team members. All our members were cooperative and dedicated to do this assignment, hence they did a great job in researching about the topic, we were researching about Indian food in Malaysia and my part was to create a link about famous Indian restaurants in Malaysia of which I did.

I gathered information about the best Indian restaurant across all the states of Malaysia which most people were not aware of and after that I created a link about Indian restaurants in Malaysia in the website and the page with its content.

I learned about different types of Indian menus, restaurants, their desserts, culture and history of Indians which was quite interesting.

I used my knowledge in digital media to create a webpage with good graphical user interface to make it easy to attract and make it easy for those interested in knowing about Indian food.

During our project we encountered some problems because sometimes it was difficult for us to meet, midterm exams as we were busy with other school commitment but our love for this subject kept on pushing us to finish it. Next time when I had the opportunity to do this I will try improve on what I and team members had left, work on our weaknesses and try to manage my time so that I give this assignment more time.

My motivation level was always high and this was due to my team members and my lectures that made the assignment to simple by providing guidelines and assist when necessary.

Cooperation among members was very good as consultation was always there, from the group, team leader and the tutorial group and thus making the working relationship to be running smooth with no conflicts.

It was great experience doing this project as I had the opportunity to interact with people of different choices and thinking skills, this also improves my working relationship with others.

I was just collecting my data and information for the project and write down on the blog for updates

My team leader and other team members were very good and supportive of each other, thus making it easier to finish the project.

Lastly, I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in my team, u guys did a great job and I’m proud of u. The project was done and it was done the way it was supposed to be, my support and yours paved way for a very good project and I’m confident to say that this work will attract a of people.

Individual report

According to my own understanding I have a better perception about the topic. I now know clearly the types of recipes Indian have and how they prepare them. Digital media is an interesting and creative subject there is no how you can run out of ideas given tools to use and instructions on how they are used. Despite digital media being an interesting subject there we a few problems we faced when we did our assignment. These problems include

  • Lack of time
  • Misconception about the whole assignment

We came up with a few solutions to try to solve the problems we were faced with. These solutions include

  • Lack of time: we decided to spend hours to do the assignment and forget about sleeping since we couldn’t sleep with work pilling up our side
  • Misconception about the assignment; we sought for guidance and help from our tutorial group leader and he explained a few things we didn’t get and corrected us were possible

In the future if I happen to have an assignment like this, I will spend my time doing a lot of research and seeking help where possible. I will try to maximize all the time I have to make sure that I get my job done on time so I can enjoy the benefits of being free and relax a lot. Frankly I had low motivation because I had so much work in my hands with little time to finish everything. Working with all the leaders it was pleasant more specially working with my group leader as he lent his helping hand where possible and got to give a positive criticism as well as how to improve the overall outcome. This project was a bit stressing as well as exciting to work on. It required a lot of time and sacrifices. Before I did this report I had to sit down and make individual analysis of my own link and its objectives.

Usually when I choose my team mates and leader I go for those who are eager to get things done. I really enjoyed working with them as they are the same people I usually be with in every group because they know that time wasted and not putting effort in our work costs all of us not an individual.

Looking at how much I worked I will give myself 100% because of the time I spent doing my part. For my team mates they put in 100% to make sure that we finish on time and the content is correct.

Design of GUI

The first step I did was to open dream weaver and choose from the available templates to use as an interface for my link. I had to put in the background picture, this picture is necessary as it adds weight to my link. I had to put the picture in the header.

flow chart

this show how my contents follow each other. we have two types of indian recipes and these are

  • vegetarian recipes ( Sarson ka Saag , Assam Laksa ,Shahi Paneer)

Use of tools in Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Flash

- I used photo -shop to edit my pictures that I used in my individual link

- Dreamweaver was my necessary tool as I used it to create my template.

To start with, I never understood what I had to do from the beginning. This type of the project was one of the kinds to do, where one large group of students had to produce one thing. But to understand it I pictured it as a funnel and everything worked out well. I created a link about the culture heritage of Indians in relation to their food. The main objective of this was to understand how the Indians related the food with their culture. I found out that Indians respect food as part of their culture, that’s why it’s usually included in their ceremonies or celebrations. Also within their culture, Indians believe that their foods are healthier for their minds, body and soul. This was done to help people who visit the website to understand the influence of food on the Indian culture and how it benefits their society in Malaysia.

For the design of the graphical User Interface, I created a banner using the Photoshop software, I used this so that I could blend in the pictures well and make a perfect size to fit in the website.
This was a great idea because I learnt to work with many people, and of different races. I so much liked this kind of the project. Problems I faced are that we did not understand what we have to do from the beginning, so with that we wasted so much time not doing anything and checking on the lectures to explain. The lecture did make everything clear at the end but anyways at the end we got the drive.

It was great working with all my colleagues; they comprehended well though sometimes we had problems with our meetings, when our schedules clashed. From my part I learnt that Indians are very respective of their food in relation to their culture as its usually part of their celebrations which they so much treasure. I will say I was cooperating well my group mates and the group leader; I did my work on time to avoid delaying other students since I knew we all have to compile one thing at the end..so I learnt that my laziness could contribute to the whole group not just me. I believe I did put much effort on this project and as for my group mates they cooperated well too.

Individual Report

Otlalenna Fernando Moiphetsodi (group leader)

I created a link about the history of Indian food in Malaysia in the website and the page with its content. Basically, the main objective of my page is to explain and describe the history of Indian food and how they ended up being in Malaysia. In this way, when users click on my link, they will be shown the history about how the Indians came into Malaysia and how they introduced their kind of cooking to Malaysia. This helps users to know the history of the food that they normally enjoy and how the food is made or how it came to be in Malaysia.
As for the graphical interface, the header was designed using adobe Photoshop and was saved as a J-PEG so that it would be able to fit into the website properly. I also used food backgrounds as a way of showing the significance or as a way of showing that the website is about food.
After doing the project, I managed to understand the origins of Indian food in Malaysia and how the food is prepared. I also managed to understand the differences between the different kinds of Indian food and even the differences between Indian foods and other foods from other cultures. During the project, I faced problems of lack of communication between or among our members. This was primarily due to different timetables and different subjects done by each member which made it almost impossible to meet conveniently, causing a slow progress in our project. This did not prevent us from finishing the project, as a matter of fact; we managed to schedule or meet during the weekends and cover up on the project. This was helpful because during that time, most of us were free.
For next time, I think it will be better to choose students who are doing the same course with me to avoid complications caused by clashing time tables. This would make meetings much easier and this would get the work done much faster. As for motivation, I guess I can say I am more motivated now because I am able to use the software that I didn’t know how to use and even learnt more skills of using the softwares.
As for the team work, it was very encouraging and very motivating. The group members were very cooperative and hardworking and this made working on the projects easy. As the team leader, I had to make sure that my group members were able to perform their duties and even preform them on time, and they did, without any difficulties. I believe I did my best in the project, personally, I gave all the efforts that were needed in the project and as for my teammates; I can gladly say the same about them as they did not give me any trouble.

The proposed topic (research information & URLs) and concept

Our proposed idea is to make or create a website application about Indian food in Malaysia, looking at various aspects of the food. some of the sources of information that we will be using for our research include:
• http://indian-food.suite101.com/article.cfm/the_health_benefits_of_indian_food
• http://ezinearticles.com/?Health-Benefits-of-Indian-Food&id=3761684
the reason why we chose this topic is because we found that the Indian cooking is different from Malay and Chinese cooking, as a result, this made us curious as to how come they are different and how and where did the Indian cooking enter or become introduced in Malaysia. we will be covering a lot of aspects such as history, nutritional value and others, as allocated below among the group members.

Objectives:

1. To understand the history and origin of the Indian food in Malaysia.

2. To acquire skills and recipes used to prepare Indian food.

3. To promote the culture and heritage of indian food in Malaysia.

4. to find the nutritional value of indian food

Topic allocation:

1. History of indian food in Malaysia

2. famous Indian recipes

3. culture and Heritage of indians with relation to indian food

Demographics of the end-user/target audience profile

-->our target audience is focused on all the international students and foreigners in Malaysia aged between 18 and 65. this is because most foreigners in Malaysia between 18 and 30 are students who are studying in local universities and most of them above 30 are here for work while some come here for retirement. This would be a good way of introducing them to the Indian food market so that they can be able to try the dishes out. its also appropriate because most foreigners from the age of 18 are willing to experience a lot of things in Malaysia including trying out new food and the same applies to elderly people.

-->we will also target the non Indian community or people in Malaysia as a way of encouraging them to try different food. by introducing the Malay people and Chinese people and other races that live in Malaysia, this would encourage diversity and unity among the people in Malaysia. Malaysia is a country of different cultures and races, so it will be a good way to help the cultures blend together by trying different food. we will focus mainly on people who are more than 18 years old because they are more independent and willing to try new things.

milestones achieved
so far, we have managed to create a website for our research topic. we created the website using dreamweaver, adobe photoshop and macromedia flash and each group member was able to create their own page and link. we also managed to compile a written report about the whole process of our website creation. at the moment, what is yet to be finalized is the compilation of each member's individual report which will be done by the time the assignment is submitted.

group discussions
we met a few times after choosing the topic as a way of planning on how to approach the project. the first meeting was to decide on which topic to choose and how we were going to do it. we decided on doing Indian food in Malaysia and each individual was allocated a task which he/she was supposed to do within a given period of time. each individual was also assigned a task of creating their own web pages related to their topic of research. at our last meeting, we compiled everything that has been done and got ready to submit.
